Next in line to get scooped on this fine Thursday afternoon? How about a little BlackBerry Tour 9630 love for all you RIM addicts out there? Over the past few weeks we’ve been getting some pretty consistant feedback from various ninjas putting the highly anticipated BlackBerry Tour 9630 on the streets either Wednesday July 15th or Friday July 17th. We’ve been waiting for some more confirmation before running a post but now, thanks to a few email tips, we see that insider kevin byrne from HoFo has placed the launch date on Monday July 13th. Byrne has a good track record and at the very least, he’s always in the right ball park. Judging by our intel at this point we’re leaning more towards the 17th but it’s now a pretty safe bet that one of these three dates is the winner. Sure it’s not as early as BlackBerry-addicted Verizon customers would have liked, but at least now you can gear up for what will definitely be a hot Summer week in July.

FCC unveils the AT&T-bound Nokia 6750 “Mural”

The FCC veil of confidentiality has been lifted on FCC ID QMNRM-381 and it looks like Nokia has a new flip-tastic handset on the way dubbed 6750 Mural. Associated photos and manual now available to the public show a very shiny clam shell with 850/1900MHz 3G connectivity, Bluetooth, a camera of unknown resolution and a memory card slot. Oh yeah, the draft of the manual refers to MediaNet and Video Share so this one is definitely headed to AT&T. The lack of any discernible menu button suggests that this flip phone will be a Symbian S40 handset and not S60 like its 6650 counterpart, but that’s just speculation for the time being. Hit the jump for one more external photo courtesy of the FCC.

Dell Android-powered netbook coming soon

Android OS is NOW really getting popular. After a slew of windows-based netbooks, the newest trend is making a netbook with Android OS.

Software developer Bsquare issued a press release this week which stated that it’s “porting Adobe’s Flash Lite 3.17 technology onto Dell Netbooks running Google’s Android platform”.

Of course, the Dell has not made a single announcement regarding its Android-netbooks and they have said that such announcements by Bsquare were “made in error”.

The main reason the Android OS is getting so much attention is due to the fact that it is free and this would let the cellular carriers and manufactures to reduce the costs by few dollars.

Norh Tec’s Gecko Edubook to debut at $200 – runs on NiMH batteries

The new Gecko Edubook from Norh Tec is all set for debut at Computex 2009, with a reduced price tag of $200. Primarily, targeted at children, the netbook sports these features:

  • 8.9-inch widescreen
  • 1024 x 768 LED backlit display
  • internal as well as external USB
  • standard AA NiMH rechargeable batteries
  • four hours of battery life on eight NiMH AA batteries or six hours if Li-on cells are used
  • no AC to DC adapter required
  • WiFi (optional)

All that’s possible thanks to a new architecture based on an Xcore86 system on a chip, offering a 1GHz processor and power consumption of just 1.2 watts. I’m personally impressed by its power consumption, but if you spend $50 or so, you will able to get yourself some nice EEE or Aspire One with wifi built-in too. Also, do not forget the technology and brand value

Beak-Like iPhone Stand is for the Birds

There’s certainly a need for a little, sturdy stand to prop up the iPhone whilst watching video, but we doubt that the iClooly is it, mostly because it adds too much bulk to the phone.

In “stand” mode, the iClooly works both vertically and horizontally, and the big clip curves down like a curlew’s beak to provide a secure, shake free “standing experience” (a marketing term we just invented). But in “teenage jeans pocket mode” it offers little more than a signal to pickpockets. “Here’s my iPhone” it calls, in the voice of the aforementioned curlew (it’s a piercing cry), “Please, steal me,” it wheedles, in a melancholic tone.

A missed opportunity, to be sure, and the company has clearly passed up the chance to make a protective case with a simple foldaway kick-stand and instead embraced the bird-spotting crowd. We can’t help but think that this might be a mistake, even in today’s market of niche products and “long-tails” (something the curlew doesn’t have). €25 ($33).

Nokia N97 pre-order falls to $454 in the US!

Yes, technology tends to fall in price as it ages, but is the still-unreleased N97 prematurely getting on in the years or something? Did we miss that memo? Nokia USA is already blowing out N97 pre-orders for $174.75 off the $699 retail price after having originally gone up for sale just earlier this week — and you still get a free BH-703 headset thrown in for good measure. Considering that this means you’re getting the most full-featured device Nokia has ever made for the same price as a NAM E75, it seems like a no-brainer; hurry up, though, because we suspect this discount is a limited-time sort of deal.
